Endress+Hauser SE+Co. KG

Liquiphant M from Endress+Hauser is a point level switch for use in all liquids. The measurement technology specialist optimizes it using CADFEM simulation solutions.

Endress+Hauser relies on simulation

Endress+Hauser is a global leader in measurement instrumentation, services and solutions for industrial process engineering and offers the most comprehensive range of industrial sensors on the market at present. The corporate group generated sales of approximately EUR 1.694 billion in 2012 with more than 10,000 employees worldwide.
Endress+Hauser uses the possibilities of computer-aided simulation in product development to create optimum solutions and products. One example of this is the Liquiphant M series of point level switches for use in all liquids.
The upper FEM image (circle) shows an example of the simulation of a Liquiphant M sensor’s vibration frequency in its basic mode. Thanks to the simulation, the frequency of the mechanical tuning fork can be determined before manufacturing and the effects of changes to material and geometry on the basic mode can be evaluated. This supports fast, efficient and effective optimization of the sensor.

Endress+Hauser and CADFEM

Endress+Hauser and CADFEM have enjoyed a close cooperative relationship for 25 years. Having started with simple structural mechanics simulations with Ansys, the entire functional spectrum of Ansys Multiphysics is now used at Endress+Hauser to simulate coupled field problems in process sensor technology. Together with complementary software, simulation with Ansys Workbench accompanies all phases of the product lifecycle.
Dr. Alfred Rieder, of Research & Development Flow at Endress+Hauser Flowtec AG, explains:
“The simulation helps us to evaluate new ideas, provides in-depth insights into product behavior, reduces the time and money involved in the industrialization phase, safeguards product quality in production and, not least, ensures a successful application with the customer. Numerous innovations at Endress+Hauser would not have been possible without the close symbiosis of simulation and experimentation. Besides the powerful Ansys software, other elements from CADFEM such as training, the hotline and the Users’ Meeting contribute to our successful use of simulation here.”
