Simulation assistance systems for brake design
Sector: Automotive supplierSpecialist field: Scalability of simulations, Structural mechanicsIn the development of integrated safety systems for the automotive industry, TRW Automotive focuses on future-oriented innovations. Product development is comprehensively supported by automated simulation processes.
Summary
Task
For further improvement of product development, design-accompanying calculations should be implemented as automated simulation processes with Ansys Workbench.
Solution
During the design-accompanying calculation, the designers receive a clearly defined task field and are guided through automated simulation processes within Ansys Workbench with the help of so-called wizards.
Customer benefits
With the automated calculation, the designer can check his design independently with Ansys in a few minutes.
Project Details
Task
In developing integrated safety systems for the automotive industry, TRW Automotive focuses on future-oriented innovations. At the same time, best quality, lowest costs and global presence are part of TRW's four value strategy. With Six Sigma, a process improvement system, TRW ensures that every customer receives the best products and systems. To further improve product development, Ansys® Workbench™ was to be used to implement design support calculations as automated simulation processes.
Customer Benefit
With the automated calculation, the designer can check his design independently in a few minutes. He can identify problem areas immediately, optimize the design accordingly if necessary and check whether the desired improvements have been achieved with a new automated calculation. This leads to:
- reduced costs,
- shorter processing times and
- improved product quality.
In addition, the designers increase their level of knowledge and understand their products better, which is reinforced by internal training. CADFEM supports TRW with Ansys Customization Training and complementary knowledge transfer.
Solution
A prerequisite for shifting simulation tasks from the calculation specialists to the designers was a standardization of the processes involved. During the design-accompanying calculation the designers receive a clearly defined task field and are guided through automated simulation processes within Ansys Workbench by so-called wizards. In order to achieve the highest possible acceptance, special care was taken that the wizards speak the language of designers. Currently, the available standard calculations for designers are summarized in more than 20 wizards under a uniform user interface and have become a firmly integrated part of brake development at TRW.
