Balsa wood is ideal for the construction of fiber composites in sandwich design and is often used for rotor blades. In a wind turbine with three rotor blades, two to three balsa trees can be installed. As a result of higher demand and price increases, more and more manufacturers are replacing balsa wood with special PET foams.

The RVE elements developed for this purpose include PET and resin information. Resin absorption and component curvature are also taken into account.
