The fifth edition of the CADFEM Conference was held on Thursday June 6, 2024 at the Institut Lumière, in an emblematic building of the city of Lyon, a UNESCO world heritage site dedicated to cinema and the Lumière brothers.

Hangar du Premier-film, Lyon : On March 19, 1895, Louis Lumière placed his camera in front of the hangar, in front of the factory's large gate, turned the crank and filmed the workers leaving the workshops. “Sortie d’usine ” thus becomes the first Lumière film, and the Hangar the first set in the history of cinema. The Hangar is thus a fundamental vestige of cinema's memory. Left derelict when the Lumière factories were demolished in the early 1970s, the Hangar was almost razed to the ground to make way for a housing project in the early 1980s. But thanks to enthusiasts determined to preserve the legacy of the Lumière brothers, it was saved from destruction. Today, the set of the first film has been saved and houses a cinema. Where images were developed using processes invented by Louis, they are now projected. The men and women who worked in the factory have given way to cinema-goers, in the place where it was invented.
