Liebherr pushes technical progress by using simulation

Liebherr

The wide range of products offered by Liebherr's eleven business units represents decades of experience and a high level of expertise. For simulations, the compan relies on Ansys and CADFEM.

The natural laws of engineering mechanics cannot be overcome even with the most modern simulation tools. Nevertheless, the simulation with ANSYS enables us to push the limits of technical feasiblity within the safety margins of specified standards.

about Liebherr

Liebherr is not only one of the world's largest manufacturers of construction machinery, but also shapes technological progress in many sectors. The group's eleven business segments and broad product range stand for decades of experience and outstanding expertise.

The exchange between the business segments with a total of more than 46,000 employees promotes innovative ideas and cross-sector developments. The group of companies is still managed by the Liebherr family. The business fields include cranes, concrete technology, civil engineering, mining, machine tools, automation systems, aerospace and transport technology as well as household appliances.

Finally, the aim is to achieve maximum customer benefit: to design mobile cranes with the lowest possible transport weight and maximum lifting capacity, while complying with the technical standard at reasonable costs.

Liebherr and CADFEM

Based on long-term contracts with Ansys and CADFEM, Liebherr engineers have access to a comprehensive license pool for all Ansys simulation technologies worldwide. In addition to Microsoft and PTC solutions, Ansys software was chosen as one of three strategic IT tools at Liebherr.

The simulation solutions from Ansys are used in many Liebherr projects. Here, CADFEM offers the customer a wide range of support. Simulation applications at Liebherr include developments in areas such as additive manufacturing, electronics development, flow simulations, chassis analyses, system simulations and automated simulation processes.

Liebherr already recognised the benefits of computer-aided crane simulation back in the late 1970s. For more than 30 years, we have been using Ansys as the most important strategic simulation tool in structural-mechanical calculation and optimization of steel components. The constructive and trusting partnership with CADFEM started at the same time. The success proves us right: We bet on the right horse from the beginning.
