Customer Interview with HAWE

Stefan Macho, Head of R&D Simulation at HAWE Hydraulik, talks about his experience with CADFEM's learning formats.

CADFEM training formats from a customer perspective

Flexible for sustainable learning success

Model. Explore. Analyze. With the Ansys Discovery software, companies gain enormous flexibility in the entire development process.

In order to meet the individual preferences and circumstances of customers and their users, CADFEM offers various training options: classroom training, online seminars and eLearning.

Marc Vidal, responsible for the Ansys Discovery product line at CADFEM and himself a seminar lecturer, spoke with Stefan Macho, Head of R&D Simulation at HAWE Hydraulik, about his assessment of and personal experience with the learning formats during the introduction of Ansys Discovery.

Marc Vidal: Mr. Macho, you started with an introduction to Ansys Discovery during the COVID-19 Coronavirus period and you have experienced the training in a CADFEM live online seminar with cloud support and parallel team sessions. Your conclusion?

Stefan Macho: The advantages of this seminar format are clearly the flexibility for the participant. For example, I myself was in the office on Tuesday and Thursday so that I could participate in the seminar via the company infrastructure. On Wednesday I was scheduled for home schooling in the morning and home office in the afternoon. With the new seminar format, I was then able to work on the learning content from home without any problems.

Marc Vidal: The Discovery course will in future be offered in three formats: classroom, live online and on-demand, i.e. as eLearning. In your opinion, which format is optimal for your users?

Stefan Macho: That depends on the respective situation. On-site seminars are very useful if several people from the company attend the seminar. We had this in January at a two-day seminar in Grafing. All colleagues had reached the same level of knowledge at the same time and were able to exchange information during the breaks and in between. Since the course was held away from our offices, there were no unexpected interruptions for the participants and they were able to fully concentrate on the seminar.

For live online seminars - as described above - the flexibility of the location is a big plus. I would prefer this format if employees work at distributed locations. I have no personal experience with the eLearning format. However, I think that for newcomers or individual colleagues this format is a helpful addition. They can use it relatively quickly, but at their own pace, to acquire a level of knowledge that enables them to work productively.

Personally, I prefer the on-site seminar for two reasons that are important to me. Firstly, I can fully concentrate on the seminar. Secondly, I greatly appreciate the personal contact with other participants. During the break I can exchange ideas with them and you get to know each other - this can have a not inconsiderable positive side effect.

The course is didactically well structured. By alternating between presentation and workshop, attention is always maintained. The lively discussions and questions during the seminar were also very instructive for me. Therefore I am very enthusiastic about the CADFEM offering!

The training covers not only the operation of the software, but also many tips and tricks for simulation applications. We as the simulation team will distribute this software throughout the company and we must make ourselves available as contacts for this purpose.

For Live Online Training, the flexibility of the location is a big plus. If you have employees working in dispersed locations, I would prefer this format.

Marc Vidal: What particularly impressed you during the three days of the live online seminar?

Stefan Macho: The seminar is didactically well structured. By alternating between presentation and workshop, attention is always maintained. The speakers were quite attentive and always had our screens under observation so that they could immediately help participants who had problems with tasks. The lively discussions and questions during the seminar were also very instructive for me. Therefore I am very enthusiastic about the CADFEM offering!

Marc Vidal: What did the seminar teach you? What knowledge did you gain?

Stefan Macho: The seminar not only covered the operation of the software, but also many tips and tricks for simulation applications. We as a simulation team will distribute this software throughout the company and we must also make ourselves available as contacts. Initially, we will not be able to roll out all functions at once, but we will proceed step by step. The seminar has shown us in detail what a wide range of possibilities are available to us. As a next step, we will prepare some practical cases with corresponding examples to familiarize our colleagues in the design department with the program.

Marc Vidal: Thank you Mr. Macho for your friendly and positive feedback!

Stefan Macho: My pleasure!
