Successful verification with uniform workflow
Sector: Electrical engineering/electronicsSpecialist field: Structural mechanicsSchabmüller offers customized electrical drive solutions. The effort for individual FKM verification has been significantly reduced with the CADFEM extension "FKM inside Ansys".
Summary
Task
Due to the focus on special requirements for mobile applications, situations are increasingly occurring in design development where the usual procedure with analytical proofs can only be carried out with rough approximations. Therefore, an efficient alternative for the validation of FKM detection in drive shafts was sought.
Solution
To solve the problem a static structural-mechanical analysis with Ansys Mechanical was performed. Based on the resulting stresses, the static and cyclic strength analysis was carried out with the CADFEM extension "FKM inside Ansys".
Customer benefits
Due to the simple and fast application of "FKM inside Ansys" for arbitrary design scenarios, previously used simulation tools and FEM software could be completely replaced. Thus a uniform, continuous workflow was established.
Project Details
Task
The strength verification for shafts of electric drives is often based on a design scenario with known workflows, normative guidelines and is a daily procedure in many development departments. The same applies to the company Schabmüller, which is known for customer-specific drive solutions in the areas of material handling, trucks, buses, agriculture and construction machinery. Due to the focus on special applications for mobile applications, situations are increasingly occurring in design development where the usual procedure with analytical proofs can only be carried out with rough approximations. An example of this is the static and cyclical strength verification for a keyway connection. The load combination at hand allowed an analytical consideration only with a large uncertainty that could not be estimated. Therefore, an alternative evaluation for the validation was sought, which up to now has been carried out as a manual FKM verification at great expense.
Customer Benefit
With the applied approach, the development process at the customer is accelerated considerably:
- Time-consuming manual evaluations can now be carried out automatically in a few minutes, even for complex scenarios.
- Due to the simple application of "FKM inside Ansys" for any design scenario, previously used simulation tools and FEM software could be completely replaced. Thus a uniform, continuous workflow was established.
Solution
To solve the problem a static structural-mechanical analysis with Ansys Mechanical was performed. The present assembly design with a feather key as the connecting element between the shaft and the corresponding pulley was realistically represented with non-linear contact definitions. Based on the resulting stresses, the static and cyclic strength verification was carried out with the CADFEM extension "FKM inside Ansys".
