Summer School for PhD Candidates

PhD students deepen their knowledge about the simulation of electromagnetic and coupled phenomena at the University of Wuppertal.

Summer School in the field of Electromagnetics

Industry-related research colloquium

The summer school has always been in continuous demand as hopefuls apply to join the exclusive group of participants. Over one week, a specific topic is taken and explored intensively from different perspectives. The course instructs on the use of professional simulation software and scientific aspects, presents research topics and provides the opportunity to discuss ideas with subject experts.

Knowledge gain and exchange

The summer school has developed into a forum for participants to share their research with each other. A short presentation of the dissertation projects contributes to the success of the program. Participants particularly appreciate the opportunity to describe their own problems, discuss them with CADFEM experts and take home new solution approaches.

16th Summer school 2024

Content
  • Basics of the calculation of electromagnetic fields with their potential formulations.
  • Application of the programs Ansys Electronics Desktop u. Ansys Workbench for the solution of field tasks
  • Generation of conservative and causal reduced order models from field simulation for use in system simulation: motors and actuators, elastic bodies for NVH calculation, thermal reduced models, reduced electromagnetic models with eddy current effects
  • Realization of field and system coupling for the description of mechatronic systems
  • Application of Reduced Order Models for NVH Calculation and for the Calculation of Electromagnetic-Thermal Models in Power Electronics

What participants are saying

Matthias Kowalski
Development engineer, Siemens AG

The Electromagnetic Simulation summer school is the perfect way for PhD candidates to learn how to use ANSYS software at a high level based on collaborative case studies. The discussion of different simulation approaches and methods for my dissertation topic with Dr. Hanke and other doctoral students was invaluable to me.

Features, Engineering and PhD Advisory Services

In addition to the Summer School, PhD candidates can also take advantage of other events and offers related to simulation.
